Input Methods and Game Controls
The full game on the home page supports physical keyboards, touch screens, and motion sensors. You can change sound, tilt calibration and shooting behavior from the in-game options menu.
| Action | Keyboard | Touch Screen and Mobile |
|---|---|---|
| Move Left | Hold ← arrow key | Tilt device left, or hold the on-screen < button |
| Move Right | Hold → arrow key | Tilt device right, or hold the on-screen > button |
| Shoot Projectile | Press Space or ↑ | Tap anywhere on the game canvas |
| Toggle Full Screen | Press F | Tap the full screen icon at the top |
| Pause / Resume | Click pause icon | Tap the pause button |
Settings and Configuration
The options menu holds these preferences, saved in your browser:
- Directional Shooting: When set to ON, tapping the screen or clicking the mouse calculates the horizontal offset from the screen center, angling your shot directly toward your pointer. When OFF, all shots fire vertically straight up.
- Sound Toggle: Switches all game audio and sound effects ON or OFF, saving your preference for future sessions.
- Tilt Calibration: You can select AUTO or MAN. Selecting AUTO resets tilt calibration to zero. Selecting MAN opens a calibration screen where you hold your device at your natural resting angle and tap set to store your custom neutral offset.
- On-Screen Arrow Settings: For touch devices, the arrows panel allows you to show or hide the on-screen steering buttons, customize their size from 10 to 200 pixels, adjust screen margin spacing, and set button opacity.
Troubleshooting Common Input Problems
If controls do not respond as expected, the issue is almost always caused by browser focus or permission states:
Arrow Keys Do Not Move the Doodler
If pressing the arrow keys has no effect, the game canvas has lost browser focus. This happens when you click outside the game frame, switch tabs, or click on browser address bars. To fix this, click once anywhere inside the game canvas. The keys should work again straight away.
Tilt Does Not Work on iPhone or iPad
Safari asks for permission before a web page can read the motion sensors. If you declined, tilt stays inactive. Reload the page to get the question again, or steer with the on-screen < and > buttons instead.
On-Screen Arrows Are Missing
Open the settings button on the game page and turn on the option to show the arrows. The same panel sets their size, margin and opacity, so check that the opacity has not been set too low. On a computer you can simply use the keyboard arrow keys.
Full Screen Button Does Not Open Full View
Some mobile browsers, including iPhone Safari, do not support the HTML5 Fullscreen API for standard web elements. In these cases, clicking the full screen button displays an alert message. To achieve a full-viewport experience on iOS devices, use the Safari Share menu and select "Add to Home Screen".
